About me:

Dr. João Delgado has a background in biological science and epidemiology and a curiosity for knowledge has led me to pursue research. Joao joined the Epidemiology and Public Health group in Exeter in October 2014, where he focuses on producing research that is easily transferable to clinical practice.

Currently, João is studying the management of conditions affecting cognitive function in old age, including dementia and delirium. João is leading the delivery of an NIHR grant on producing risk stratification tools for identifying individuals at risk of delirium living in the community. João is also currently supported by the Alzheimer’s Society, through a Junior Fellowship, to investigate prescribing quality in people living with dementia and how modes of care delivery can improve this. João brings advanced research experience, a wealth of epidemiological knowledge, a highly developed capacity for critical thinking and experience in liaising with government and public stakeholders at national and local levels.

João works collaboratively with colleagues in Exeter and abroad, including charities such as the Alzheimer’s Society and AGE UK and the University of Connecticut.
