Nick is a Professor of Biomedical Imaging and Biosensing and a Healthcare Practitioner Council registered [CS3557] Consultant Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics), holding positions in two leading Foundation Hospital Trusts. NS spent almost 20 years in the NHS leading clinical teams developing novel diagnostics and therapeutics.

 

He is currently Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor ot the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy. Previoulsy he has served as Director of Research and then Head of School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Exeter. 

 

Nick leads the ADA (Accelerating Data Science and AI) Strategic Programme at the University of Exeter. 

 

Nick is an international leader in the field of biomedical vibrational spectroscopy for diagnostics. NS has received various awards, e.g. Institute of Physics Rosalind Franklin Medal 2024, Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) Charles Mann Award 2024, Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) Academic Gold Medal 2020, Chief Scientific Officer’s National Research and Development Award 2009, NHS Innovation Challenge Prize, 2013, International Raman Award ICORS 2014.
