Explore the Cutting Edge of Cytometry at the Exeter Centre for Cytomics

Welcome to the Exeter Centre for Cytomics (EXCC), your gateway to the advanced world of cytometry. At EXCC, we specialize in the intricate science of cytometry, a powerful technique used to measure and analyze the physical and chemical characteristics of cells. Our centre is dedicated to pioneering research and providing state-of-the-art resources for both academic and commercial advancements.

What is Flow Cytometry?

Flow cytometry is a cornerstone of cytometric analysis. By suspending cells in a stream of fluid and passing them through a laser, flow cytometry can measure multiple parameters on single cell simultaneously. This technique is essential for immunophenotyping, cell sorting, and a wide range of applications in health, environmental and clinical diagnostics. Its ability to provide rapid, high-dimensional data makes it a vital tool in modern biological sciences.

Introducing Cytomics

Cytomics takes cytometry a step further by integrating it with other omics fields (e.g. proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) to study the relationships between cell characteristics and their genetic and molecular profiles. This holistic approach allows for a deeper understanding of cellular functions and interactions within biological systems.

The University of Exeter Research Facilities:  Bioimaging, Cytomics, Mass Spectrometry and Sequencing are delighted to announce that they now hold BSI certification to ISO 9001:2015.

This certification by the UK’s National Standards Body (NSB) which represents the UK economic and social interests across all European and international standards organizations is an important accolade as confirms that the RFs comply with the rigorous standards set by BSI to the ISO 9001: 2015 standard.  Certifications such as ISO 9001:2015 aid innovation, support economic growth and improve quality, safety and well-being through standardisation.
