Reaching the PEEK in Additive Manufacturing

Join Professor Oana Ghita and Richard Davies as they discuss their work with the Manufacturing Technology Centre and Thales to identify and disseminate information about 3D printing with high performance polymers.

Our partnership with Victrex

CALM and Victrex are collaborating in a multi-million pound partnership, to exploit the full potential of high-performance PAEK polymers in Additive Manufacturing.

Developing recyclable wetsuits with Finisterre

In a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Finisterre, we are researching neoprene degradation and investigating re-manufacturing and circular economy initiatives for wetsuits.

Working with us

Exeter Technologies Group is an internationally recognised, industry-focused research group within the Department of Engineering. It comprises three separate centres that come together to provide materials research, expertise and testing capabilities, with both novel and traditional processing techniques, to deliver solutions for industry. We work with both international and UK businesses, starting from very short consulting work to long term collaborative research projects.

Our expertise is built on a deep materials science background, coupled with the knowledge and expertise of manufacturing processes. This enables us to develop, improve and optimise materials and processes for polymers and composites in a range of industries. Our facilities allow us to investigate at both the micro and macro level, with extensive thermal characterisation, materials testing and processing capabilities.

We can offer material testing and process optimisation capabilities, whilst also working collaboratively to develop new materials, products or manufacturing processes and systems. We are flexible with how we work with companies but typical examples include:

We have an excellent track record of securing grant funding and we can support companies looking to gain funding for research projects in this area. We can advise on and support all aspects of the process from developing the collaboration, to writing the proposal, delivering the project and carrying out the necessary reporting. Please contact us to discuss your idea and see how we can help.

We consistently have PhD students within the group and actively engage with companies to jointly fund and support PhDs investigating novel aspects of materials science and manufacturing processes. In addition we have experience of supporting a number of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and other knowledge exchange and training programmes. If you are interested in working with the University in any of these areas please contact us to discuss it further.

Whether you are interested in understanding your materials better with some material analysis or characterisation work, want to carry out some mechanical testing, or you have a more in-depth product development project, please contact us to discuss and see how we can help.
