I am a biologist with a background in plant ecophysiology. My research interests are quite diverse, but they mainly focus on studying tropical plants and ecosystems and how they are adapting to a changing world. My career goal is to contribute positively to promoting nature conservation, sustainable land use and management practices, while encouraging a more collaborative and inclusive approach to scientific research. Currently, I am an academic at the University of Exeter's Geography Department. My research work so far has been conducted in tropical ecosystems, particularly in South America. I have studied tropical forests (i.e. the Atlantic Forest, Cloud Forest, and Amazonia), and Brazilian savannas, with a focus on plant functional ecology. In recent years, my research has been aimed at understanding how plants work, mainly in terms of their water use and carbon assimilation, and how this knowledge can help us understand plant distribution patterns and species' responses to climate change, particularly during events like ENSO-induced droughts. My current research projects include studying the diversity of hydraulic and carbon assimilation strategies across savanna's species, exploring restoration experiments, examining ecosystem services such as biodiversity, water security, and carbon storage, and exploring regenerative agriculture systems that combine native species with productivity.
