About me:
My main area of expertise is the ocean circulation and its role in climate, with a particular interest in the ocean carbon sink. In recent work I have adapted an inverse method that uses a water-mass framework to diagnose ocean circulation and mixing from observations, and applied it to carbon. The method, known as the Optimal Transformation Method (OTM) provides a means of reconciling air-sea CO2 fluxes with interior changes in ocean carbon content, and I am attempting to use it to explain the role of changes in ocean circulation in ocean carbon sink variability.
Broad research specialisms
Ocean circulation, carbon sink, ocean mixing, inverse modelling.
