Family Law and Technology

Both family life and family justice increasingly involve the digital world. In this new area of research, network members are working with colleagues in other disciplines to explore the complex interactions between new technology and the way relationships are formed, conducted and concluded. From a socio-legal perspective, members are examining the benefits and limitations which new technology can bring to the family justice system, where it is seen as a vital means through which processes of dispute resolution can be revolutionised and streamlined. What this will mean for separating families, family practitioners and the courts, alongside the role family lawyers and researchers can play in making technology user-friendly and fit for purpose will be the topic of our first interdisciplinary workshop on this topic in 2022.
