Anthropology allows students to analyse the behaviour of social groups, and the adaptation of people over time, particularly in terms of their relationship to their environment. Within the BSc pathway you’ll acquire practical skills relating to the excavation and study of remains, and systematic methods of analysis to reveal patterns of social action. The BA alternative advocates a stronger cultural and social focus tackling fundamental questions of the past. You will discover how anthropologists have influenced the modern world through health, war, violence, science, technology, consumption, and the environment.

Archaeology at the University of Exeter enables students to explore both the academic and practical aspects of a fascinating discipline. Art History & Visual Culture explores both the history of art and more recent ideas of the visual – extending the analysis of visual forms from the historical right through to areas of modern and contemporary practice. The degree offers maximum flexibility to be studied alongside alternate disciplines, allowing you to study the history and theory of painting, sculpture, print-making and architecture, alongside film, video, performance and digital art. Students are taught how to use visual imagery as a means of understanding contemporary and past societies.
