UK Metamaterials Network
Making the UK a Science and Innovation Leader in Metamaterials
The UK Metamaterials NetworkPlus was established in 2024 by an EPSRC NetworkPlus grant that is looking to build on the success of the UK Metamaterials Network (a jointly funded-endeavour between EPSRC, DSTL and Innovate UK KTN).
As the main recipient of the NetworkPlus grant, Exeter is the administrative home of the UK Metamaterials Network. In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities of supporting the 850+ strong network, the organisational team oversees the organisation of central events (such as the annual conference and summer schools), distribution of pump-prime funds and advocacy for greater support of the metamaterials ecosphere in the UK.
For more details, visit the UK Metamaterials Network website.
The Network activities are guided by a multi-institutional Executive Board of experts from across academia and industry with support from a wider Leadership Team.
The External Advisory Board (EAB) of the UK Metamaterials Network consists of national and international representative from academia, governmental agencies and industry with a diverse set of knowledge and expertise. The role of the EAB is to provide advice on strategic direction and activities for the UK Metamaterials Network.
The UK Metamaterials Network contains members from academic institutions, industrial organisations, funding bodies and government agencies. For a complete list of members, see the Network Membership Database.
The UK Metamaterials Network is organised into:
- Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which are dedicated to specialist scientific areas,
- Forums that provide a platform for cross-SIG interactions,
- Challenge Areas which aim to align the research interests of Network members to real-world challenges.
