Food on Film

Food on Film across the seasons bringing you movies, workshops and more

Food on Film is an ongoing collaboration between the University of Exeter and the Exeter Phoenix. Led by Dr Celia Plender, it features documentaries, films and shorts that create opportunities for the audience to think about food from different perspectives.

Food on Film is a great way to showcase the wealth of food-related research and teaching taking place at Exeter university.

Each season explores food from a different social, cultural or political angle, to discover how it shapes the world around us – our identities, livelihoods and planet. Screenings are accompanied by talks, workshops and events hosted by food researchers and producers. To date these have included a wide range of practitioners such as Iona Collins from St Sidwell’s Community Centre, Maresa Bossano from LOVE Food CIC, food, wine and travel writer Marc Millon and film producer Claire Wallerstein from Cornwall Climate Action; and researchers from Exeter and our wider network such as Dr Annie Gray, Professor Oli Mould, Professor Marion Demossier, Professor Heather Paxson, Jess Fagin, Megan Larmer and Professor Harry West.

There are also plenty of opportunities to get hands on with making and tasting events such as growing and harvesting with Exeter Growers Co-operative, vegetable preserving with JarSquad, tasting with natural wine specialist Pullo and Magdalen Cheese and Provisions.
