Landscape survey

Would you like to play a part in finding new archaeological sites or expanding our knowledge of known ones?

Are you interested in the ‘lost’ historic places that have long-disappeared from our countryside?

Do you want to get hands-on and learn how to use state-of-the-art archaeological prospection equipment?

If so join us at one of our Landscape Survey Activity Days at Calstock and Cotehele.

The first survey workshops of 2020 at Calstock are now planned and we are taking bookings for places on these. The dates are as follows:

Thursday 6th February

Wednesday 12th February

Thursday 13th Febuary

Friday 14th February

All workshops will run 9:30am to 4pm but are subject to the mercy of the weather!

These events will provide you with an opportunity to learn the techniques of geophysical survey whilst exploring the landscape surrounding Calstock Roman fort, and the hidden heritage of the National Trust’s Cotehele estate.

These are outdoor events that requires gentle physical work – laying tapes, walking with equipment, running cables etc.

Pre-booking is essential and places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. To register complete the  application form and email to Chris Smart c.j.smart@exeter.ac.uk.
