Understanding Landscapes: Empowering communities to preserve their heritage

Our vision is to provide opportunities for individuals, community groups, and schools to become instrumental in the recording and understanding of archaeological sites within their local area. It will allow people to explore the broader heritage setting of the farms, hamlets, villages and towns within which they live. We would like to work with local residents of all ages and abilities, primary school children and their teachers, and socially disadvantaged groups from across Devon and Cornwall.

Our work is focussed on the parishes of Bere Ferrers and Calstock, in the Tamar Valley, and The Ipplepen Project, in the Teign Valley.

Opportunities are listed by parish on the project’s homepage, with some lectures or events outside of the core areas listed separately.

To help you plan your involvement our year-round activities are shown month-by-month on our calendar.
