Our aims

We have two broad aims:

• To enhance public appreciation and understanding of their historic environment whilst empowering people with life-long skills and experience.

• To improve our knowledge of the buried archaeology and wider ‘historic landscape’ within the two project areas.

Objectives

Our aims will be achieved through the pursuit of key objectives:

• To promote and present heritage to a wide and diverse audience through the creation of a touring exhibition, public-oriented booklets and academic publications.

• To give both specific skills training and holistic appreciation of archaeology and the historic environment to a wide cross section of society.

• To empower communities with an understanding of their local heritage and the issues that affect its preservation for future generations.

• To form cohesive working parties and interest groups that bring together sections of society that would not normally work together.

• To foster a long-term interest in our vulnerable heritage amongst both schoolchildren and their teachers, and improve access to local heritage resources for education.

• To provide enjoyable and inclusive opportunities for the public to engage with heritage and work alongside the people and organisations that work day-to-day on its investigation, presentation and preservation.

• To identify and record key sites at Bere Ferrers, Calstock, the National Trust’s Cotehele estate and Ipplepen.

• To provide an enhanced archaeological resource (through archive reports) with which to inform the management of historic sites by the National Trust, the Tamar Valley AONB, landowners and local planning authorities.
