Teacher Professionalization and the Professional Quality of Religious Education
1 November 2014 - 30 April 2015
About the research
In response to contemporary policy imperatives and recent research findings concerning the professional standing of Religious Education (RE) teachers and teaching in England & Germany, we are planning a large-scale international comparative historical project on the professionalization of RE as a presupposition of its professional quality. To this end, we are seeking funding for an international symposium on this theme which will enable us: (i) to share and gather feedback on our developing research proposal, (ii) to review it in the light of comparisons with, and contrasts between, related European projects, and (iii) to ensure the aims and methodology can provide a stepping stone to subsequent and wider-ranging international comparative studies. The symposium will create a European network of academics researching the professionalization and professional quality of RE. The discrete pieces of original research developed for, and presented at, the symposium will be published in Special Issues of the British Journal of Religious Education and Zeitschrift fur Padagogik und Theologie
