PPIE Groups

For University of Exeter academics from Health and Life Sciences, as well as patients and members of the general public who are interested in participating in and co-producing research.

Public & Patient Involvement & Engagement Groups work with patients and the public to shape our research, allowing those with lived experience to engage with it in meaningful ways. You can find out more about how PPIE is embedded into all research projects in our PPIE strategy.

APEx (Exeter Collaboration for Academic Primary Care)

APEx is a patient and carer PPIE group involved in a broad spectrum of involvement and engagement activities. They work closely with PenARC and frequently run patient-specific advisory groups.

BRC (The Biomedical Research Centre)

The BRC works collaboratively with South West NHS partners to improve diagnosis, treatment and care across five core themes: clinical mycology, diabetes, genetics and genomics, neurodegeneration, and rehabilitation.

EPIC PF (Exeter Patients in Collaboration for Pulmonary Fibrosis)

EPIC PF is a group of patients, carers, academics, and clinicians working together to advance PF research, find effective therapies, treatments, and ultimately a cure. They aim to achieve this in a way that is collaborative and mutually supportive to patients and their families.

HCP PPI Advisory Group (Health and Care Professions Public and Patient Involvement)

The HCP PPI Advisory Group supports the Academy of Nursing and Medical Imaging and is an independent lay group with expertise and experience of receiving nursing care, healthcare and caring for others. It contributes to the undergraduate programmes and research activities.

HEPE (Health and Environment Public Engagement)

HEPE is a group made up of members of different communities from across Cornwall who have a shared interest in how human beings interact with the environment, both positively and negatively.

LEG (Lived Experience Group)

The LEG is a collection of individuals with lived experience of mental ill health and their supporters who come together to share their thoughts on certain topics. It is linked to CEDAR and the DClinPsy programme.

PenCRU Family Faculty (The Peninsula Childhood Disability Research Unit)

The PenCRU seeks to carry out research that families with disabled children think is useful and relevant to their lives and they involve families affected by childhood disability in all aspects of research.

PenPEG (The Peninsula Public Engagement Group)

PenPEG is a collective of patients, service users, and carers who volunteer to make sure our research is relevant to the needs of the community. They contribute to health and social care research as well as running PPI Advice Clinics and Virtual Ideas Cafes.

PIME (Public Involvement in Medical Education)

PIME is a group made up of members of the public who take part in activities across different degree programmes. Their public engagement benefits students, the faculty, and the public, by promoting learning that is authentic and person-centered.

YPAG (The Young Person’s Advisory Group)

The YPAG is a collective of young people aged 12-16 years who volunteer to advise on research that is relevant to young people. They aim to foster young peoples' engagement as co-researchers and follow the ethos ‘nothing about us without us’.
