I have an overseas working project, what should I do?

Overseas Working Request For Work Reasons

The line manager should complete a Global Employment Request Form (Tab 1 - Request Form only) and send it to the Faculty PVC or Division Director for approval (with a copy to your HR Advisor).

If the project is approved in principle by the Faculty or Division, the HR Advisor liaises with the Global Employment Team. Please note that incomplete forms will be rejected as all the information is required to proceed with the request.

The Global Employment Team will provide the Faculty or Division with an initial due diligence report, including:

  • Assessment of the feasibility of the case from a legal and compliance point of view
  • Analysis of the various implications of the overseas working case
  • Risk analysis
  • Cost estimates (project and recurring)
  • Recommendation on employment option

The employing Faculty or Division makes a final decision on the request based on the Global Employment due diligence. If the project is fully approved, the Global Employment Team will support the employing Faculty or Division in its implementation.

Please note that if your overseas working project is related to a study leave, you should complete a PD10 and follow the process enclosed instead. Please contact your HR Advisor for further information

Overseas Working Request For Personal Reasons

The line manager and employee should complete a full Global Employment Request Form (Tabs 1 and 2) and send it to the Faculty PVC or Division Director for approval in principle (with a copy to your HR Advisor).

If the project is approved in principle by the Faculty or Division, the HR Advisor liaises with the Global Employment Team. Please note that incomplete forms will be rejected as all the information is required to proceed with the request.

The Global Employment Team will work on their due diligence, costings and recommendations on the case. The case is then escalated to the Central Panel (Provost, Registrar and HR Director) to make a final decision on this case. The decision of the Central Panel is final and there is not right to appeal.

If the request is fully approved, the Global Employment Team will support the employing Faculty or Division in its implementation.
