Recording of HEA membership on iTrent Self Service

As you will be aware, the University’s Education Strategy includes a commitment to encourage and enable all relevant staff to obtain professional accreditation for teaching by seeking the appropriate level of membership of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). The purpose of this commitment is to ensure that the University delivers excellent teaching in a research intensive environment and to anticipate that membership of the HEA may emerge as a kite-mark for teaching quality used by league-table compilers.

To support this aim, the University has developed ASPIRE, a developmental framework which allows the University to accredit staff internally, against the HEA Professional Standards Framework. Education Enhancement and Human Resources are briefing managers in Colleges about ASPIRE this term. Detailed information about ASPIRE, including guidance on how the scheme relates to the University’s Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP) and Learning and Teaching in HE (LTHE) programmes, can be found in a ‘Guidance for Applicants’ pack available for all staff.

To help us assess current progress towards achieving the aim in the Education Strategy and to assess the likely demand for ASPIRE and LTHE and PCAP programmes, we are asking staff in Colleges who are directly involved in the teaching and learning experience (both those in academic roles and Professional Services staff) to record in iTrent Self Service whether or not they are members of the HEA and if they have a teaching qualification

Staff should enter their details direct into Trent Self Service.

Staff who are not yet members are also requested to record this fact in iTrent HR.
