THE FACULTY EXECUTIVE BOARD
The Faculty sets its own strategic plan, priorities, and objectives aligning all its constituent parts to University strategy and ensures delivery of its key performance indicators (KPIs) subject to agreement with the SIPC and UEB. It considers and approves the plans of its departments.
DEPARTMENTS
Departments are at the heart of the delivery of an inclusive culture and vibrant student and staff experience. The Departments manage their activities and develop their own intellectual vision to deliver research and education academic programmes and the staff and student experience within the strategic and policy framework as set and agreed by the Faculty/ School or University. Within the department there may be several distinctive disciplines or major programmes/ research centres. They are led by a Head of Department.

Role descriptor - Departmental EDI or WIC Director
This position will take leading role at department level to take forward initiatives, themes and issues relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. The role will operate under the direction of the Head of Department, and also be a member of the Faculty’s Wellbeing, Inclusion, and Culture (WIC) Committee chaired by the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellors of the Faculty. In consultation with the Head of Department and the Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellors, the role-holder may also be asked to take part in various Faculty and University ad hoc groups in the area of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. With the HoD and members of the department leadership team, the role holder will identify key actions to address specific EDIA and Wellbeing issues that face the department. The role holder will be a member of the Department’s executive team.
Main duties and accountabilities:
Specifically the role-holder will:
- Identify best practice at Department level, and make recommendations to further embed and progress EDIA actions and strategies across all protected characteristic groups at a local level.
- Increase equality, diversity and inclusivity awareness and capability through:
- Connecting Departmental, Institutional, and Faculty initiatives on Wellbeing, Inclusion and Culture to departments through regular updates.
- Identifying key actions for the Department to support the delivery of local, Faculty and institutional EDI priorities.
- Tracking progress on agreed annual EDI priorities and delivery at a Departmental level.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders, both internally within the Department and also more widely in the institution and sector where appropriate, to facilitate delivery of equality, diversity and inclusion agendas and raise their profile in the community.
- Manage the Departmental WIC budget (which will be ring fenced)
- Respond to EDIA cases including:
- Responding to informal reports of discrimination and provide signposting to individual staff and students as appropriate.
- Facilitating and coordinating inclusivity events both online and Campus, including inviting external guests and researching topics for discussion
