Academic Tutoring - Tutoring International Students
| Description | Theme: Personal Effectiveness Category: Education and Research Academic Development About this course: This session will begin to explore some of the realities of studying in a foreign language. We will consider some of the assumptions that are made when we begin to work with international students. Learning Outcomes As a result of attending this course you collect some top tips to improve your tutoring practice. This will both help you to work more supportively with your international students, and also support all students to benefit from the cultural diversity at the university. Work with peers across the university considering the difficulties faced by international students. The workshop will then address the assumptions we may have when we consider international students, and identify ways to address those assumptions Specifically you will:. - foreground some of the assumptions you make when working with an international student in your tutoring practice. - gain some insights that will help you to better support your tutees. - have a better understanding of the difficulties faced by international students studying in the UK.
