Before you arrive

Congratulations on your appointment - we look forward to meeting you!

Before you arrive we ask you to check that you have read the following information and completed any relevant steps:

Contract

Please ensure you have signed your contract of employment. We send our contracts electronically through AdobeSign which will allow you to simply sign and return it to us.

Personal details

When you receive your contract through AdobeSign we will also include a New Joiner Additional Details form for you to complete. This will provide us with your personal details (including your address and date of birth) and your bank details. These will enable us to get you set up on Trent, our payroll system. Please note that without these, we cannot pay you.

Bank details

We will need your bank details to set you up on our payroll system. If you are new to the UK and do not have a bank account, visit our international staff pages for details on how to get an account set up. If you do not have an account by the time the payroll is run, we can pay into an overseas account or hold on to your salary until you get a UK bank account set up. You will see these options on the New Joiner Additional Details form.

Pre-employment assessment

All new appointments with the University are made subject to a satisfactory pre-employment health assessment. The pre-employment assessment is carried out by a questionnaire (see your employment contract for the link) and sometimes a health check to ensure the fitness of the person for a given role.

The University of Exeter actively seeks to support colleagues with disabilities, including those with physical and/or mental health conditions in line with the requirements of relevant legislation. Colleagues are encouraged to disclose health conditions and disabilities that may impact on their work and where there may be a requirement for additional support and/or reasonable adjustments.

Disclosing relevant health information will enable us to provide colleagues and their managers with guidance about suitable resources available and, if required, the opportunity to talk confidentially with an OH Advisor about workplace health needs.

All questionnaires and other relevant information are confidential to the Occupational Health team.

Conditions of employment

The University has core conditions of employment for all staff, except those engaged on a casual/claims basis, Graduate Teaching Associate and those engaged on NHS Clinical Grades. The Conditions of employment cover information regarding probation, hours of work, holidays and pensions, as well as other topics.

Under the terms of the Agreement for the Implementation of the Framework Agreement, staff in some job families enjoy protected benefits over and above the core conditions. You should read the full Terms and Conditions of employment - please visit the Conditions of employment pages for more information.

IT access

If you hold a contract of employment your University email address will have automatically been created for you, however it must be activated by your Induction Facilitator.
