Toni Searl, RGN, PG Dip SCPHN, Occupational Health Manager

Toni has been working at the University of Exeter as an Occupational Health Advisor since 2015, and has been working in Occupational Health for the last fourteen years. She qualified as a registered general nurse in 1994 and qualified as a paramedic in 1998. Toni moved to New Zealand with her partner in 2004 and began her experience in Occupational Health in 2006, initially working at Christchurch Hospital on the South Island. While working, Toni completed a post-graduate diploma in public health in 2007, specialising in biostatistics and epidemiology. Toni moved back to the UK in 2014 and completed her post-graduate diploma as Specialist Public Health Nurse specialising in Occupational Health in 2017. Toni is a keen outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys lots of outdoor activities including running, sea kayaking and cycling.

Karen, known as Kaz to colleagues, started her Occupational Health career in 2003 and has worked in a variety of OH settings, including heavy industry, local authority and higher education. Prior to her OH career, as a dual-registered nurse in general and mental health nursing, she spent many years working in a range of hospital services, including A&E, medical/surgical and acute psychiatry, both in the UK and abroad. Karen is particularly interested in the relationship between work and mental health. Her OHA role includes the delivery of training on mental health in the workplace, personal resilience and other wellbeing topics. In her personal life, Karen enjoys long walks in the country with her husband and dogs, and visiting her native London to watch West Ham United and spend time with family and friends.

Tamsin trained as a general nurse at Guy's Hospital and moved into Occupational Health when she got a job working at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Tamsin has since worked in a variety of Occupational Health settings mostly in the United Arab Emirates where she was living for over 20 years.  Her experience includes working in large multinational organisations which have included Ship Building and Ship repair and most recently leading the Occupational Health team at Emirates Group. Tamsin relocated back to the UK in 2021 and lives with her family in North Devon where they are enjoying spending time on the beautiful beaches surfing and cold water swimming!

Anna qualified as a registered general nurse (RGN) with the University of Plymouth in 2003. Since then, she has worked at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in a variety of roles.  In 2012, she commenced a role in Occupational Health as a practice nurse and developed valuable skills and knowledge in this area of nursing.  In 2021, she achieved her Specialist Community Public Health Nursing – Occupational Health (SCPHN) degree at the University of West of England and worked in the NHS in Cornwall as an Occupational Health Advisor.  Anna lives with her family in Cornwall.  In her spare time, she enjoys gardening at her allotments and country walks with her family and their dog.

 

Katherine Carpanini, RN, PG Dip SCPHN (OH), Occupational Health Advisor

Katherine qualified as a registered nurse in 2008 working in various NHS departments before gaining a role in occupational health at Royal Devon Hospital in 2016 as a vaccination nurse. In 2019, she studied Specialist Community Public Health Nursing – Occupational Health (SCPHN) PGDip at the University of West of England (UWE) and continued to work at Royal Devon hospital as an Occupational Health Advisor. Katherine lives with her family in Exeter, and spends her spare time in her allotment, dog walking and crafting.

Erika has been working in the HR department at the University since 2015 and has been working in OH since 2019. Since then she completed training to become a Health Surveillance Practitioner. She has also undertaken training in Mental Health First Aid as well as Mental Health training run by the University. Erika has a BA (Hons) in English, loves to read and get out in her garden with her husband and son.

Naomi Pearson-Tagg, Health Surveillance Practitioner and Administrator

Naomi started with the team in 2022 in an administrative role and has since trained to become a Health Surveillance Practitioner. With an employment background in physiotherapy and recruitment she feels at home in the Occupational Health environment and has enjoyed the new challenges that Health Surveillance brings. Outside of work Naomi coaches under 8’s football and enjoys bug hunting and bird watching with her family.
