Election of Members of Senate |
17.1 |
The Association of Academic Staff of the University of Exeter shall be responsible for the conduct of elections of members to Senate under Statutes Section 13(f). |
17.2 |
The Association of Academic Staff shall consist of all full-time (permanent and temporary) members of the Academic Staff of the University, as defined in Statutes, Section 1. |
17.3 |
A Register of Members of the Association of Academic Staff shall be kept by the Registrar and Secretary. |
17.4 |
All members of the Association shall be entitled to vote and shall be eligible for election, except that ex-officio members of the Senate shall be eligible to stand as candidates for election only in the final year of their tenure of ex-officio membership of Senate. |
17.5 |
The presence or otherwise in the Register of Members of the name of a person claiming the right to vote in an election of Members of the Senate, or to be eligible for election, shall be conclusive evidence of entitlement or non-entitlement. |
17.6 |
Members of Senate shall be elected in such a way that at any time there shall be at least one elected member from each School. |
17.7 |
Elected members of the Senate shall serve for three years from the beginning of the academic year following election, except that those who cease to be members of the Academic Staff of the University or become members of the Senate ex-officio shall ipso facto cease to be elected members of the Senate. An elected member may resign at any time by notice addressed to the Registrar and Secretary. |
17.8 |
One-third of the elected members of the Senate shall retire each year. |
17.9 |
Casual vacancies shall be filled as prescribed in paragraph 1, and the person appointed to fill a casual vacancy shall serve for the unexpired term of the person who is replaced. |
