24 Tenure of Office of Members of the Academic and Administrative Staffs
24.1 The Vice-Chancellor, Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, the Registrar and Secretary, Director of Information Services, Professorial-related Staff and members of the Academic-related staff of the University shall be eligible to hold office until the age of retirement, unless a more limited period or other special provision as to the termination of office is specified in terms of appointment.
24.2 (a) Lecturers on Probation shall be appointed to a five year Professional Development Programme
  (b) A lecturer on Probation who successfully completes the Professional Development Programme shall be eligible for permanent appointment.
  (c) Separate probationary arrangements will be applied to Lecturers appointed to temporary posts of less than five years' duration.
24.3 (a) Any member of the Academic staff to whom Ordinance24.2 refers may resign by giving three months' notice in writing to expire at the end of an academic term or the final day of the Long Vacation in any year.
  (b) The Vice-Chancellor wishing to resign shall, unless the Council determines otherwise, be required to give at least six months' notice in writing, terminating on the thirtieth day of September in any year.
  (c) A Professor wishing to resign shall, unless the Council determines otherwise, be required to give six months' notice in writing, terminating on the final day of an academic term, or the final day of the Long Vacation, in any year.
  (d) A member of the Professorial-related staff wishing to resign shall, unless the Council determines otherwise, be required to give six months' notice in writing.
  (e) A member of the Academic-related staff wishing to resign shall, unless the Council determines otherwise, be required to give three months' notice in writing.
24.4 Subject to the foregoing paragraphs and to the provisions of Section 35 of the Statutes, a member of the Academic or Academic-related Staffs of the University shall vacate office on the thirtieth day of September next following the day on which the age of 65 years is attained.
