The Chaplaincy serves all members of the University, staff and students, regardless of their faith background. They aim to be hospitable and inclusive at all times and offer to listen carefully and unconditionally whatever the issue might be. They can be found in the Student Services Centre, The Forum and in The Chaplaincy Rooms, The Old Library (which includes areas for quiet, relaxation and a kitchen).

They aim to provide opportunities for worship and for faith to be nurtured and deepened and to engage with those who have questions about spirituality and the meaning of life.

The Chaplains are always ready to discuss issues of faith or daily living or any personal matter in confidence at all times.

Places of worship on campus

The Mary Harris Memorial Chapel of the Holy Trinity within the University of Exeter which was designed and presented to the University by Dr E. Vincent Harris, OBE, in memory of his mother, was consecrated by the Lord Bishop of Exeter on 26 June 1958. It was declared a Grade II Listed Building at Easter 1988. Staff, students and visitors are welcome to all the services, Holy Communion on Sundays at 11am and Choral Evensong on Wednesdays at 5pm and the daily rhythm of morning and evening prayer.

St Luke's Chapel, St Luke’s Campus was opened on 23 September 1863, destroyed by enemy action on 4 May 1942 and rededicated in 1952. It has a contemporary interior having been re-designed in 1998. Staff and students are welcome to all services; Holy Communion followed by supper takes place every Sunday evening at 7pm.

The University Chapels are available for Baptisms, Weddings, Memorial Services and other important occasions to any associated with or who have had links to the University. Enquiries to the Lazenby Chaplain are welcome: anglicanchaplaincy@exeter.ac.uk.

The Catholic Chaplaincy of St Boniface in Glenthorne Road contains the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, meeting rooms, kitchen and social areas as well as student accommodation.

The Chaplaincy Rooms in the Old Library, are for use by all faith communities and provide space for prayer and worship as well as for social and informal meetings. You can also find a small library and various periodicals from the different faith communities. Contact the Multi Faith Administrator or the Lazenby Chaplain for access and bookings.

Full details of services and other activities are announced each term and displayed in the chapels and Chaplaincy Room, together with other notices.

There are Muslim Prayers Rooms on Main Site at the Old Library and St. Luke’s in Holnicote Building.

Lazenby Chaplain

The Lazenby Chaplain (Anglican) is an Official of the University, and is appointed jointly by representatives of the University, the Diocese of Exeter and the St Luke’s College Foundation which manages the estate of the late Katherine Maud Lazenby of Tiverton. The St Luke's College Foundation (set up as a charity when St Luke's College was joined with the University in October 1978), employs the Lazenby Chaplain and contributes significant funds for the use of Chaplaincy at the University.
