The Global Leaders Experience is returning to the Hague in 2025, but with a twist!

Whether you’re passionate about climate justice, international law, or diplomacy, this experience will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and connections to make a meaningful impact.
About the Programme
Embark on a transformative journey with the Hague Global Leaders Experience, a unique programme designed to immerse you in the "international city of peace and justice." This April, join a vibrant group of like-minded students as you delve into the pressing theme of climate justice.
During this five-day experience, you will attend insightful tours, engage with prominent organizations and NGOs, and participate in dynamic micro-teaching sessions. Expand your perspective by exploring key institutions, engaging in thought-provoking discussions, and building connections with global stakeholders who are making a difference in the fight for climate justice.
But the learning doesn’t stop there. Your journey will also take you to Brussels for two unforgettable days, providing you with a broader understanding of European initiatives in the realm of peace, justice, and sustainability.
Why The Hague?
The Hague is renowned as the “international city of peace and justice” and serves as a global hub for international law and diplomacy. As the home of significant institutions such as the International Court of Justice and the Peace Palace, The Hague offers unparalleled opportunities to explore critical issues of climate justice and sustainability.
In this vibrant city, you will:

When Will It Take Place?
Mark your calendars! The programme will run from the 21st to the 26th April 2025.
This week-long experience is packed with insightful activities, enriching conversations, and unforgettable memories.
Eligibility Criteria
- You will be enrolled as an undergraduate student at the time of the programme
- There are a small number of places available to international students. Please check in advance of applying whether you are required to apply for a visa to travel.
- Students must meet one or more of the Widening Participation criteria
- You can travel to and from the UK between the 21st and 26th April 2025
- Not currently on a placement year or study abroad
- Have an up-to-date passport with more than 6 months validity from date of return
- Have not exceeded the 90 out of 180 days rule for travel in Europe by the date of the programme. If you are unsure of this please use this calculator.
Managing Expectations
- The global travel sector remains impacted by well-publicised strikes, cancellation and disruption.
- Please be ready to follow any national or local guidance in relation to travel, such as passport validity for the Netherlands.
- Students are expected to travel to and from the UK as part of a group for the trip
Cost
The University of Exeter will be booking return travel from the UK departure point and accommodation on your behalf; the cost of which will be covered by the University.
There will be a travel bursary available to those who meet the Widening Participation criteria. You will be able to claim travel costs to and from the UK departure point (for example from campus to an airport or train station) if student discounts are used; receipts must be provided.
Claims can be made up to a maximum of £100. This limit is for the whole journey, i.e. not £100 each way and claims above the limit will be rejected. Please note that the travel bursary cannot be used for additional accommodation unless in exceptional circumstances and must be checked and approved with global-leaders@exeter.ac.uk first.
