Connective Curriculum

The university is currently updating its programmes to ensure that we offer an exciting, distinctive portfolio of degree programmes that:

  • equips all students with transferrable skills to support work-readiness and resilience
  • embeds opportunities to build social relationships and develop a sense of belonging on every programme
  • connects all students to the university's 'greener, fairer, healthier' mission

This Grand Challenge invites YOU to act as co-leaders of this work by designing activities and experiences for first year students that support these goals, that could be embedded in every programme.  This is an exciting chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of future University of Exeter students - and equally, reinforce the reputation of the University, and therefore your degree.

Through the week, you'll discover how and why the university is working to redesign its programmes to suit the need of 'generation Alpha' and beyond.  You'll try out some new immersive learning activities, and work with the university's education leaders to develop meaningful experiences for future students that reduce loneliness, engage with their community, and build students' resilience, confidence and readiness to learn.

There are two enquiry groups within this challenge. Please choose one when signing up:

This enquiry group will explore activities in Year 1 core modules in Year 1 that can help students:

  • Feel part of the university community
  • Get to know their coursemates and make new friends
  • Understand how learning on the programme works, and how to access help

This enquiry group will explore activities in Year 1 core modules in Year 1 that can help students:

  • Collaborate effectively with their peers in project groups
  • Develop confidence in participating in dialogue and discussion
  • Learn how to welcome different perspectives and ‘agree to disagree’
