Grand Challenges 2018

A Street Cat Named Bob

Words with Wanderers

This group identified that alongside Exeter having the second highest rate of rough sleeping outside London (correct to 2017), homeless are twice as likely to have a mental health issue when compared to the likelyhood in the general population. According to research identified by the team, reading for just 6 minutes a day can reduce stress levels up to 68%.

They aimed to improve the mental well-being among the homeless via reading groups involving both Exeter University students and local homeless individuals. This session would run weekly, where books would be read aloud or a group would listen to an audio book, with books being accessible and mood-boosting in nature. They created this poster to be displayed at the Showcase, alongside this project proposal.

Here is the group presentation which they presented on the Friday of Grand Challenges week.
