Applying for a replacement BRP in the UK
Most students will need to apply for a replacement BRP within three months of reporting the loss or theft. We will help you with the application. The replacement BRP application is online. You then need to attend an appointment at a UK Visa and Citizenship Application (UKVCAS) centre to enrol your biometrics.
The Standard service costs £19. There may be additional charges for appointments at some application centres or at specific times. It will then take approximately eight weeks from the date of your online application to receive your new BRP card. Note that UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) eight weeks processing time cannot be guaranteed therefore avoid booking any international travel until you have received your new BRP. Priority services are not currently available.
You will need to prepare scans of the following documents saved to a folder as you will need to upload these to your application:
- Your passport
- Student status letter for proof of address - you can generate a PDF version in the SRS/Registration section of iExeter or obtain one from the SID desk. Make sure your address on the Student status letter matches the address on your replacement BRP application form otherwise your application is likely to be rejected as invalid.
You will also need:
- Credit/debit bank card to pay the application fee
Use our guide below to help you answer the questions in the online application form.

The BRP card system is ending in December 2024 as UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) move to an online system from 01 January 2025. From 01 January 2025, you’ll be able to prove your immigration status online, without a BRP card.
You should still report the loss or theft of your BRP card to UKVI using the online form but you will not need to apply to replace it. Make sure you have created your UKVI account and you can access your eVisa. If you are outside the UK and plan to travel back before the 31 December 2024 please contact International Student Advice so we can advise you based on your individual circumstances.
