Accessibility statement for MyExeter
This accessibility statement applies to the MyExeter web application - accessed using a browser - and the mobile application - downloadable from the App and Play Stores.
MyExeter is run by the University of Exeter. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this application. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Navigate most of the application using just a keyboard
- Listen to most of the application using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of VoiceOver and TalkBack)
We have also made text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible is MyExeter?
We know some parts of MyExeter are not fully accessible:
- Some interactable elements may not be accessible using a keyboard
- The mobile application’s content is locked to a portrait orientation
- Some interactable elements do not provide an accessible name
- Increasing the device font size does not reflect in the web application (accessed via the browser)

Technical information about the accessibility of the MyExeter application
The University of Exeter is committed to making its web application and mobile application accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
MyExeter is not compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. The non-compliances are listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Some buttons and elements may not have an accessible name or description that is announced by the screen reader when focused. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-Text Content).
- Some decorative images may contain inappropriate alternative text that may be announced by screen readers when focused. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-Text Content).
- Not all elements of the application can be interacted with using a keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard).
We plan to resolve the non-compliant features by: 01 July 2025
Disproportionate burden
Navigation and accessing information
- There is no way to skip the repeated content in the page header (for example, a ‘skip to main content’ option).
- It is not possible to change the device orientation from horizontal to vertical without making it more difficult to view the content in the mobile application.
- It is not possible for users to change text size without some of the content overlapping.
We have assessed the cost of fixing the issues with navigation and accessing information, and with interactive tools and transactions. We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. We will make another assessment by 01 July 2025
