Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy: New postgraduate students studying in Cornwall
Welcome – it's great to know you’ll be joining us as an postgraduate student in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences this year. We’re looking forward to welcoming you.
Please ensure you check this page frequently for updates, as well as your personal e-mail account, new University of Exeter e-mail account and your MyTimetable for the most up-to-date information from us. You must have registered with the University and activated your IT account.
The purpose of Academic Induction is to introduce you to your academic programme, complete any necessary pre-registration tasks, familiarise yourself with your academic buildings, and meet fellow students and the academic staff within your subjects. These sessions form the core part of your Welcome Week timetable and we expect all new students to be present.
You can find a list of Academic Induction events and activities for your subject(s) as well as other relevant information below. If you are a Combined Honors student, please ensure you view the section(s) for all your subjects as each will have its own Academic Induction information, events, and timetable.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the Department!

Reading list
While there is no compulsory reading to do prior to your arrival, if you’re new to data analysis, you may want to get ahead a little and do some prior reading on this topic. Once you have an Exeter IT account you could access our library to have a look at Whitlock and Schluter The Analysis of Biological Data. Data Camp can also be useful as an introduction to R, the programme we’re going to be using.
