UniCard
The UniCard is issued to all staff and students at the University of Exeter and serves as:
- A library card
- Access to online electronic resources
- Identifies you as a member of the University and access to its services
- Access to buildings
- Access to printers on campus. To top up printing credits, please click here. If you are a member of staff, you can request a department billing code from your department's admin or finance team.
- Access to student discounts with participating companies (note wider discounts can be accessed via the NUS Totum scheme)
- Discounted fares arranged for students on Stagecoach Devon buses

How to request your Unicard:
Exeter Streatham Campus students
New students
Students based on the Exeter Campus can request a card by following the instructions below. If you are a student based in Cornwall please click on the 'Cornwall Students' tab.
If you are a new student you can order your Unicard by visiting the UniCard Application Portal. You will be asked to provide the following details:
- Full name
- Student ID number
- Email address
- A photo
Collecting your card
Please note specific collection arrangements apply to the following courses:
St Luke’s based courses
If you are on a St Lukes programme, any course under - Education, Sports or Medicine (including Nursing, Neuroscience, Medical Imaging) - your Unicard will be at the Info Point on St Lukes campus – see the Exeter St Luke’s Students Tab for full details.
Online/Distance Learners
If you are on an official distance learning or online course please log an enquiry in SID Online with the category “Unicard distance learner request” to confirm the address you would like your card to be posted to.
CEDAR Students (Clinical Education Development and Research)
If you are not based in Exeter / unable to collect your Unicard on campus please log an enquiry in SID Online with the category “Unicard distance learner request” to confirm the address you would like your card to be posted to.
Degree Apprenticeships
If you are on a Degree Apprenticeship please log an enquiry in SID Online with the category “Unicard Request – Degree Apprenticeship” to request your card. For any further questions please contact your programme administrators directly.
Replacing lost, stolen or damaged cards
Lost or broken cards are replaced at a charge of £10 and can be ordered through the Online Store.
Stolen cards can be replaced free of charge, please note you will need to provide a crime reference number.
If your card is not working, please come to the SID Desk in the Forum and we can test the card for you.
Exeter St Luke's Campus students
New students
Students based on the St Luke's Campus or Streatham can request a card by following the instructions below. If you are a student based in Cornwall please click on the 'Cornwall Students' tab.
If you are a new student you can order your Unicard by visiting the UniCard Application Portal. You will be asked to provide the following details:
- Full name
- Student ID number
- Email address
- A photo
Where do I collect my card?
If you are on a St Lukes programme, any course under - Education, Sports or Medicine (including Nursing, Neuroscience, Medical Imaging) your Unicard will be available to collect from the SID Desk at the Info Point on St Lukes campus. Collecting your card
You'll be able to collect your UniCard when you arrive in Penryn, during September Welcome Week. More information on this will be published before you arrive.

Lost, stolen or damaged cards
If your UniCard is lost or stolen please notify the Cornwall Card Office immediately. A non-refundable fee, currently £10.00, is charged to replace damaged or lost UniCards. You can apply for a replacement unicard via the on-line store or in person via the Peter Lanyon Reception. We aim to issue replacement unicards within 1 working day.
Replacement fees are waived where UniCards have been stolen, but only in cases where you have reported the theft to the Police and provide a valid police report/crime number when you collect/request your replacement UniCard.
We are unable to reactivate a UniCard reported lost or stolen if it is recovered.
Exeter staff
New staff
Once you have returned your contract to HR, apply for your UniCard by emailing universityreception@exeter.ac.uk with your:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Photo
Your UniCard will be posted to your department for your arrival. If you do not receive your card prior to your arrival at University please contact us on universityreception@exeter.ac.uk and you can collect it from the University Reception the following day.
Please note that it is not possible to issue your UniCard until your employment has commenced.
Replacement Cards
Lost or broken cards are replaced at a charge of £10 and can be ordered at our online store.
Stolen cards can be ordered and replaced free of charge by contacting universityreception@exeter.ac.uk Please provide your crime reference number in your email.
If you need a replacement card immediately, please come in person to the University Reception between 9am and 5pm.
Cornwall staff
New staff - From 13th February 2023
Applying for your card:
Please note that it is not possible to issue your UniCard until your employment has commenced. Just prior to starting your new role please send a recent, passport size photograph (head and shoulders only) in colour to accesscontrol@fxplus.ac.uk. The photo will need to be sent through as a JPEG.
Collection:
Your staff card can be collected from FXPlus Security at the Welcome Hut next to the parking barriers on the road into campus. You will be contacted when your card is ready for collection.
Staff not based on campus can request for their cards to be posted to them. However door access will not be provided until you arrive on campus.
Lost, stolen or damaged cards
If your UniCard is lost or stolen please notify Penryn Campus Welcome Hut immediately. A non-refundable fee, currently £10.00, is charged to replace damaged or lost UniCards. You can apply for a replacement unicard via the on-line store. We aim to issue replacement unicards within 1 working day.

KSpa
Students and staff at the Knowledge Spa, Truro (KSpa) need to use a special version of the Unicard to allow them to use the magnetic strip as a swipecard for door access and the proximity chip for printing at KSpa and also for door access and printing at Penryn.
The KSpa admin team will request this special version of the card for KSpa from the Exeter Main Reception team who will print the card using a “Tremough blank” and will then post the card(s) to KSpa.
Once you receive your KSpa Unicard, you will then need to ask the RCHT Main Reception in the KSpa building to add door accesses to your card.
Other individuals
Individuals who have a work related reason to access University facilities and therefore require a UniCard, should contact their College Dean or Supervisor who will verify their status with the UniCard issuer.
Conditions of use
- The UniCard is the property of the University and must be returned to the Student Information Desk (Streatham Campus) Info Point (Penryn Campus) or the University Reception (staff) when your employment/course ends.
- You will be required to produce the UniCard when accessing University facilities.
- You should not allow anyone else to use your UniCard.
- Your UniCard will act as your Library Card: users of the Library must comply with Library Regulations.
- Data Protection Act 2018: Personal information held on the UniCard Database will be treated confidentially and will only be used for the purposes of card administration, identity checking purposes and where necessary, shared with other departments in the University to enable members of staff and students to access University services.
