Autism Spectrum Conditions
Support for autistic students
We know that support needs vary significantly for autistic students so we advise you to contact us as early as possible before arriving at Penryn or Truro Campus so you can discuss your individual needs with us.
You can find more information on our prospective students page including our Individual Learning Plan (ILP) application form.
If you have any questions, please email us at accessibility@fxplus.ac.uk or call us on 01326 370 460.
Getting support for autism
Our Accessibility advisers can discuss reasonable adjustments for your course including specific recommendations for teaching and exams and they can give you advice on applying for the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).
Please fill in our online Individual Learning Plan (ILP) application form and one of our Accessibility advisers will be in touch.
When needed, we can also liaise closely with academic colleagues, the accommodation team and other University services.
If you think you are autistic but do not yet have a diagnosis, please get in touch with the Accessibility team to discuss this in confidence.
You may wish to fill out the Autism-Spectrum Quotient (AQ) Test, a self-assessment tool that measures autism-related traits in adults, and visit the National Autistic Society’s Diagnosis pages.
In Cornwall, the waiting list for an adult autism assessment is over three years, so you may want to ask your GP to refer you to an alternative provider via the ‘NHS Right to Choose’ route. (This link covers autism as well as ADHD and contains a table showing waiting times for different online providers.)
