Education Welfare team - Cornwall 

If your mental or physical health or wellbeing is influencing your ability to study, or your studying is creating health problems for you, then our helpful and experienced Education Welfare Team are available to talk to you in a confidential and non-judgemental way about any issues you may need support with.

Your Education Welfare team based in Penryn is made up of: 

  • Alex Lewis - Education Welfare manager  
  • Fiona Williams - Education Welfare adviser 
  • Sally Wears - Education Welfare adviser 
  • Tracey Burrell - Education Welfare officer 

Our BMBS students based in Cornwall will continue to be supported by the St Luke’s Education Welfare team.

We can help with:

  • Worries about your academic progress due to a health or wellbeing difficulty 
  • Identifying and accessing support services available to you 
  • Support around delaying an exam/deadline (mitigation)  
  • Difficulties with academic procedures such as assessment submission – we can find the right team to help you. 
  • Residential field trip welfare and adjustments 
  • Specific study-related problems or issues 
  • Ongoing support through the Health, Wellbeing and Support for Study process 
  • Student Carers, Care Experienced students and students who feel that they would benefit from a direct welfare contact for support. 

Get in touch with your Education Welfare Team 

The Penryn Welfare team are available between 09:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday. We offer video meetings via Teams, telephone meetings and in-person meetings too. 

Book an initial appointment or email welfare.penryn@exeter.ac.uk. You can also call on 01326 371847 or 01326 371875 or use our online chat. If your query is urgent, for example you have an imminent assessment deadline you need help with, please contact the Info Point for help.  

Online chat sessions run term-time between 10:00 and 12:00 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (except in the first week of term). Use the speech bubble icon in this page to access the secure and confidential online chat. The chat is great for quick answers about things like the support we offer or specific issues with your studies. If you ask a more complicated question on the chat, we can always book a longer appointment to discuss further.

Information sharing and consent

We are a confidential service and ask students to complete a consent to liaise form ahead of their first meeting of each year with the team. This form will give you control over how your information is shared. If you have any questions about the form or how your data is stored and shared please do not hesitate to contact the team.
