Living Sustainably

There are many ways to make a contribution to living sustainably in university accommodation. From turning off lights when not being used, to clubbing together for a food shop to avoid waste. Air fryer damage

Did you know that the heat produced by air fryers can cause damage to the work surface below and around it? The vent on the back of the machine expels hot air, which can stain and melt the work surface, plug socket and wall covering. To avoid this, please:

  • Make sure that the air fryer is at least 30cm away from the wall or other appliances when you’re using it
  • Only use the air fryer on a heat-proof surface
  • Never use these machines anywhere but in the kitchen

Defrosting your freezer

From time to time your freezer may get a build-up of ice, which can sometimes lead to the door not closing or drawers not opening properly.  When this happens, we recommend that you and your flatmates defrost your freezer, which isn’t as big a job as it might sound. Defrosting kits are available for free – just ask at your Residence Reception.
