To ensure applications are processed fairly we use a ballot. This makes all applications anonymous and then randomises them, before giving everyone a ballot position. This position then determines the order in which applications are allocated their preferences.

Once you have a ballot position, you will be given the highest possible preference available at that point. For example, if your first choice is not available, we will look at your second choice and so on until we can allocate you to a room. An offer of accommodation is guaranteed as long as you apply before the deadline.

Offers of accommodation will be sent out periodically throughout the Summer. Offers sent to students holding a conditional course offer will be subject to the course requirements being met. If the course requirements are not met the accommodation offer will be automatically withdrawn and the deposit refunded.

You will receive an offer within 28 days of the ballot closing, via the email you registered with Room Service. Please remember to check your junk/spam folders.

Students can find the Glasney Student Village Applications and Allocations Policy for the relevant year, along with other contractual information like terms and conditions, and how to pay for your accommodation including cost, termly instalments and payment due dates on the FX Plus Current Student Pages

A number of rooms in both Glasney Student Village and The Sidings have been modified for students with a range of disabilities. We're happy to discuss individual requirements with students who have disabilities, and we encourage you to contact the Accommodation Office and the Accessibility Team at an early stage.

If you have a disability or health condition that requires consideration or adjustments with regards to the provision of accommodation, please complete the ‘Accessibility Questionnaire’ at the end of the application on Room Service. You will be asked to provide medical evidence to the Accessibility Team to support your condition and request. The Accessibility Team will review your case to ensure you have the right support in place and liaise with the Accommodation Team regarding any accommodation needs, they have approved.

Please note it is really important that you complete the questionnaire and provide evidence so we can consider your needs when allocating rooms.

If you are allocated to self-catered halls, but prefer to have your meals prepared for you, the nearby campus cafes, the Stannary (our canteen) and bar offer a range of options during the week. At the Stannary you can pay as you go or buy vouchers to cover your meals. The campus shop sells a variety of essential food items, and there is also a large supermarket in nearby Penryn.

We guarantee to offer you a place in university owned/managed/approved accommodation if you are:

  • A UK or international undergraduate entering Year 1, who has firmly accepted the offer of a place at the University of Exeter
  • An international postgraduate who has firmly accepted the offer of a place at the University of Exeter
  • An incoming study abroad or exchange student based at the Penryn Campus for the full academic year

We also have several spaces for study abroad or exchange students joining the University of Exeter at the Penryn Campus for single semesters. Please contact us directly for further information.

The guaranteed deadline date for first year undergraduate students and international postgraduate students is 31 July in year of entry.

Whilst we try to allocate students their preferred choice of accommodation, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to offer all students their first choice and therefore recommend that all available options are put in an order of priority. Please note, during periods of high demand, we enter into agreements with approved accommodation providers in Falmouth, Penryn, and Truro to increase the availability of university owned, managed, or approved accommodation.

There is no parking available at any of our residences (except for Blue Badge holders) and students are strongly discouraged from bringing a car to university unless it is essential.

There are good public transport links with bus stops on campus and a train station a short walk away. In addition, there are secure bike storage points on campus and at The Sidings. More information on travelling sustainably around Falmouth and Penryn can be found within our Travel and Transport pages.

If you’re looking to rent private accommodation whilst at University, you’ll likely be asked to provide a guarantor by the letting agents or landlord. A guarantor is a person who agrees to pay your rent or damages if you cannot make payment.

For many UK based students their parents may act as guarantors, but this might not be possible if you’re an international student, or are estranged or have experience of being in care. To support those students, the University has partnered with a rent guarantor provider called Housing Hand. They can act as a UK guarantor for a special discounted fee for any student who needs it - this fee is calculated according to your rent amount. To find out more about the service and to apply for the discounted rate, visit the University link on the Housing Hand website.

We also have funding for 30 students who meet our definition of care experienced or estranged, to cover your guarantor fees via Housing Hand. If this applies to you, please contact the Exeter Cares Team at Exeter-cares@exeter.ac.uk who will send you a separate link.
