Office for Students Data Science Scholarship 2024
About the award
The scholarships are part of the Office for Students’ (OfS) nationwide drive to expand access to the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence sector for women, students of colour, those with disabilities and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds in the UK. Each scholarship is worth £10,000
These scholarships are intended to support students from underrepresented groups to access, participate and succeed in higher education and to create diversity in the Data Science and AI sector. For 2024, Exeter has 16 scholarships to award to underrepresented groups studying:
- MSc Applied Data Science (Ecology and Evolution)
- MSc Applied Data Science (Environment and Sustainability
- MSc Applied Data Science (Renewable Energy)
- MSc Applied Data Science and Statistics
- MSc Environmental Intelligence
- MSc Genomic Medicine
- MSc Health Data Science
Priority for these awards will be given to applicants in the following categories:
- Women
- Black students (as defined by HESA codes:21; 22; 29; 41; 42)
- Students registered as disabled
- Students from a low socioeconomics background (“Index of Multiple Disadvantage quintiles 1 and 2, low household income”)
Consideration will also be given to applicants who meet other underrepresented criteria in the following secondary categories:
- Care experienced students
- Estranged students
- Gypsy, Roma, Traveller students
- Refugees
- Children from military families, veterans and partners of military personnel
Please note this scholarship is only open to offer-holders who have been confirmed as eligible for home fees.
How to apply
Once you have received an offer of a place to study, please return to this page to access the scholarship application system and apply for the award.
Scholarship recipients are selected based on the information supplied in the scholarship application. To apply, you must:
- Complete and submit an online application form here. You will need your Exeter student number to submit your scholarship application.
- Where appropriate you will be asked to provide information to evidence how you meet the criteria e.g evidence of being in receipt of a bursary or military records
- You will be asked to provide a 300 word statement to detail how this scholarship will help your studies and career in this sector.
You should apply at the earliest opportunity following receipt of your programme offer.
Applications will close on the 21/07/2024 and we will endeavour to confirm the outcome of all applications no later than the 05/08/2024.
Terms and Conditions
1. It is your responsibility to inform us if you are in receipt of any external funding prior to enrolment; please email a copy of the award letter to eseenquiries@exeter.ac.uk
2. If you defer your offer or change fee status your scholarship offer will be invalidated.
3. In the event that you withdraw or interrupt your studies post enrolment then the University Finance regulations at that date will apply as regards any repayment or other requirements: www.exeter.ac.uk/students/finance/studentfinanceregulations
4. By applying for this scholarship you are agreeing to your personal details being shared with scholarship panel members.
5. Please note that if you are successful and accept this award, you may be asked to provide a photograph and written or video profile to appear in publicity material relating to scholarships and/or study at the University of Exeter.
6. This award is for one year only and is not recurrent for subsequent years of study.
7. We reserve the right to not award all of the scholarships if suitable candidates are not found.
