The Chevening Programme, which is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, was established in 1983 and has developed into a prestigious international scheme. Chevening Scholars come from more than 160 countries and territories worldwide. There are over 60,000 Chevening alumni around the world who comprise an influential and highly regarded global network. Awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any of the UK’s leading universities.

Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders and influencers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

Entry requirements

Applicants should read the online guidance and be able to demonstrate how they meet the Chevening selection criteria before submitting a Scholarship application.

To apply for this Scholarship, you must have:
- an undergraduate degree;
- at least two years' work experience (including voluntary experience); and
- leadership qualities and a passion for influencing positive change in your home country.

Applications for Chevening Scholarships must be submitted online; you can check if the award is available in your country/territory and apply here. To be considered for a 2025/26 Chevening award at the University of Exeter, you should include your chosen University of Exeter Master's degree programme in your course choices on your Chevening Scholarship application.

You should also submit your programme application to the University - applications for September 2025 entry are open and our information is here.

You do not need to have a programme offer by the Scholarship application deadline of 5 November 2024 (12:00 GMT) but we encourage you to check in September that your chosen courses are available for study beginning in September 2025 and apply for your programmes before or at the same time as applying for the Scholarship.
