Welcome to the Centre for Ecology and Conservation, a world-leading research and education hub rooted in the Cornish landscape, with particular strengths in ecology, conservation, evolution, zoology, behaviour, microbiology and marine science.
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences specialises in educating students in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Geology, Mining, Minerals, Applied Data Science and Marine Science. Our programs cover physical and social sciences, offering hands-on experience in environmental and climate change, sustainable development, and resource management.
You may be able to choose field trip modules but unless you are a full year student, the dates do not naturally align with the study abroad semesters. This is likely to affect your assessment dates and cause a delay in issuing your transcript. Therefore, you must seek permission from the Inbound Team and also your home university to participate.
"Camborne School of Mines (CSM) is a world-class combined geoscience and mining department. We undertake research and education in fundamental and applied aspects of geoscience and georesources – areas of knowledge that are crucial to address many of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, including the energy transition away from fossil fuels and towards more sustainable practices. The CSM courses range from geology and environmental geoscience, through to mining engineering and mineral processing, and our student body undertake their studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels equally, and on both full-time and part-time bases. Our ethos is truly interdisciplinary, and we value both theoretical and practical work in developing a holistic understanding of the geological world, our relationship to it, and the skills and knowledge needed for responsible use of natural resources. We have a long history of successful partnerships with industry and a hugely supportive alumni network that is truly global. We welcome you to explore what we do and encourage you to join us!"
Professor Patrick Foster – Head of Camborne School of Mines

Module Restrictions
You must receive approval from the Inbound Team before you can request CSM modules.
We encourage students choosing modules from CSM to select modules at the same Level (for example all at Level 3) and do not select modules from outside of the department. This is to prevent unavoidable timetable clashes and ensure you can attend all module activities.
Studying mathematics is an inspiring and rewarding experience that helps us to interpret and solve global problems that would otherwise be incomprehensible. It is one of the few subjects that can open up multiple pathways for you in the future.
At Exeter we excel not just at core mathematics, including statistics, pure mathematics and computing, but also in the applications of mathematics to real-world problems, including climate modelling, natural systems, health and medicine.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Humanities and Social Sciences, Cornwall is an exciting new interdisciplinary endeavour that fruitfully interweaves insights from the disciplines of History, Law, Politics, Modern Languages and Literature. Our work examines societies, cultures and justice in the past, present and future. We work broadly across humanities and social sciences, and with other disciplines, to help make the world a better place for all. We are home to the Institute of Cornish Studies.
History at Exeter has a global reputation for excellence in teaching and research, and we feel that understanding our past is fundamental to comprehending the contemporary challenges we face. We are proud to be one of the leading research centres for History in the UK, with a diverse academic faculty of over 65 staff across both our Streatham Campus in Exeter, and our Penryn Campus in Cornwall.

The Law School has a worldwide reputation for excellence in teaching and research, attracting academics, visiting lecturers and students from across the globe. Our interdisciplinary research specialisms are in law and business (including the future of work and evidence-based professional practice), environmental law, and justice and maritime law. Working collaboratively with other students in small groups (which we call 'law firms'), you learn about teamwork, participate in mock trials, advise real businesses and draft mock legal documents.

Politics in Cornwall is characterised by its focus on some of the biggest political challenges facing the world today such as inequality, climate change, the global financial crisis, conflict, and the depletion of natural resources, public disillusionment with politics, and the changing balance in world power. We’ll teach you about political systems and theories and apply these to world events and the major issues setting the modern political agenda, giving you real world skills valued by employers.
