This module provides an opportunity to examine an area of classic European geology famous for both its tectonics and mining history. The location varies but will typically be Spain, Cyprus or Portugal. During the module, you will you learn about the regional geological evolution of the area and the nature and origin of its mineral deposits. You will undertake independent geological mapping (or equivalent desk-based analysis of field data) and group work to include evaluations of logistical aspects, resource estimations and environmental impact assessments. To participate in this module you need to have studied year 1 and 2 of BSc/MGeol Applied Geology (or equivalent). This module is not suitable for non-specialist students or interdisciplinary pathways.
The aim of this module is to develop an integrated approach to the study of mineral deposits in the field. This module brings together subject areas that have been taught during the first, second and third year of the study programme, including applied geological techniques, field mapping and notebook skills.
