MODULE TITLEUrban Drainage and Waste Water Management CREDIT VALUE15
MODULE CODEECMM132 MODULE CONVENERProf Slobodan Djordjevic (Coordinator)
DURATION: TERM 1 2 3
DURATION: WEEKS 0 11 weeks 0
Number of Students Taking Module (anticipated) 20
DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

This module covers engineering and environmental aspects of the drainage of rainwater and wastewater from areas of human development. The content includes basic principles and engineering best practice, with the latter being mainly (but not exclusively) based on UK practice. Relevant aspects of urban drainage are considered, such as design, analysis, modelling, operation and maintenance including health and safety issues, system rehabilitation, flooding and sustainable water management. Standard material is combined with current developments and recent literature and research outputs by the Centre for Water Systems.

AIMS - intentions of the module

This module aims to provide a basic knowledge of classical and contemporary problems in management of urban drainage systems for the practising engineer. It also offers practical experience in using urban drainage modelling tools.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)

Discipline and Module Intended Learning Outcomes:

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge:

1. Acquire some practical experience of using urban drainage modelling tools.

2. Apply an integrated or systems approach to solution of complex problems. (C6)

Discipline Specific Skills and Knowledge:

3. Select and apply appropriate material, equipment, engineering technologies and processes, recognising their limitations. (C13)

4. Apply knowledge of engineering management principles, commercial context, project and change management, and relevant legal matters including intellectual property rights. (C15)

Personal and Key Transferable / Employment Skills and Knowledge:

5. Demonstrate having improved further the necessary skills for independent learning.
