Module description
This module is one of the modules included in the With Proficiency In (WPI) Entrepreneurship programme.
You will be introduced to the fundamentals of business in relation to entrepreneurial value creation.
This module is about the core aspects of business including an overview of the impact that entrepreneurship has on the following subjects: accounting and finance, operations, business structures and types, talent management and marketing.
The module’s core component is delivered online covering the fundamentals of entrepreneurial businesses. This is built on in a series of practical tutorials. This will enable you to develop an appreciation for the world of entrepreneurship.
No pre-requisite or co-requisite modules are required to take this module. This module is suitable for non-specialist students and intended for interdisciplinary pathways.
Module aims - intentions of the module
The aim of the module is to introduce you to the business fundamentals in relation to entrepreneurship in order for you to increase your ability in managing enterprise toward innovation. Further, this module is designed to reduce potential risk in entrepreneurial business endeavours through delivering a better understanding of business fundamentals.
The aim of the online content is to introduce and build key business skills across accounting, finance, operations, business formation and structure, marketing and talent management. The tutorials will build from this content, covering both assignment areas formatively and give you the chance to explore the assessed medium.

Syllabus plan
Online content will run simultaneously with the tutorial/lecture-based content.
The module will cover the following topics from the perspective of entrepreneurship: accounting and finance, operations, business structures and types, talent management and marketing. Utilising cases and contemporary business examples, the module will explore the essential business areas that help entrepreneurs create, grow, and manage businesses. The online content will introduce each topic and the tutorials will cover the application of each of these topics.

Re-assessment notes
Deferral – if you miss an assessment for certificated reasons judged acceptable by the Mitigation Committee, you will normally be either deferred in the assessment or an extension may be granted. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.
Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e., a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you will be required to submit a further assessment as necessary. If you are successful on referral, your overall module mark will be capped at 40%.
