Module description
This first-year module is for undergraduate students intending to undertake a year-long international study or work placement in their 3rd of 4 years on the WYA With Year Abroad programme.
It will provide you with the opportunity to develop academic, personal and employability skills needed to explore international study or work opportunities. Delivery is through blended learning with a combination of lectures and workshops throughout the year. Completion of all sessions is mandatory unless specified as optional. You will also meet students who have recently completed study and/or work elements of the WYA programme and will receive support from the Global Opportunities Team.

This can lead to a 3rd year international study, work or study/work combination.
External Engagement:
You will engage extensively with the partner institution where you undertake your study abroad placement as part of optional events made available via the Business School and Global Opportunities Team.
Employability:
You will develop your understanding of valuable skills, including adaptability, team-working, language abilities, and inter-cultural skills and competencies through the module learning activities and formative assessments.
Module aims - intentions of the module
This is a non-credit bearing module that aims to support students on WYA programme prepare for the tasks and activities related to finding and securing a suitable study or work placement for the 3rd year of their degree.
The combination of lectures and workshops focus on cross-cultural literacy, self-awareness of personal strengths, searching and applying for study or work placements. There will also be opportunities to meet with peer mentors (students who recently completed study or work WYA placements).
