Module description

Summary:  

A non-credit bearing module that aims to help students on BSC Business with Industrial Experience programme prepare for the placement year that will take place in third year of their degree. The module aims to assist students in their job/placement search, application and to provide a general preparation for successful participation in the workforce. 

Additional Information:

Internationalisation

Students can undertake their work placement in the UK or in any of the European Union countries and associate countries that participate in the Erasmus+ programme. Other countries will be considered on a case-by-case basis. 

External Engagement  

You will engage with leading graduate employers as part of optional events made available via the Business School Careers Team. 

Module aims - intentions of the module

BEP2180 for ‘With Industrial Experience students is a non-credit bearing module that aims to prepare students on ‘with Industrial Experience’ programmes for their extended placement in the third year of their degree.

The module aims to support students to develop:

  • Application skills needed for the placement recruitment process
  • Employability skills needed for success in the workplace

  • 5. Recognise the impact behaviour, ethics and health & safety have in the workplace; identify personal skills needed to have impact and success in the recruitment process.

Compulsory

Term 1 ~ 6 x 1 hour sessions:

Term 2 ~ 1 x 1 hour session plus e-learning:

  • What to expect at your placement – RESPONSIBILITIES (e-learning)

Optional

A range of optional extra-curricular activities will be available to BEP2180 students including: careers fairs, employer presentations, skills sessions, mock interviews and assessment centres.

The Employability Placement Advisers continue to offer support with: 1-1 appointments to help students progress in securing an industrial placement and to advise on CV, Applications and LinkedIn.

This module is not formally assessed and does not bear any credits, however it is possible to fail this module.? Students are required to attend all compulsory sessions and engage on a regular basis with the module convener. Those students who fail to meet the requirements of the course will be transferred back to the three year degree.

Module pre-requisites

A mark of 50% or higher in either BEP1130 or BEP1020 modules.
(Please note this module is a pre-requisite for the level 3 Business School Industrial Experience module BEP3002).

In exceptional cases, BEP1140 can be a substitute for BEP1030. Please contact the Business School Careers team (business-school-careers@exeter.ac.uk) for further details.
