This module provides you with a broad introduction to pharmacology. The module includes an introduction to the physiology of selected cells, tissues, and organs in the body and how drugs modulate their function. The nature of receptors as drug targets and the fundamental principles of drug-receptor theory are discussed. How drugs are administered, distributed, and cleared from the body is also covered, along with the general principles of drug toxicology. These concepts will be illustrated using cutting-edge examples drawn from different pharmacotherapeutic approaches, disease states and pathophysiology.
