This module provides the opportunity for students to study in depth one or more specialised aspects of statistics which are not covered in other modules. The topic(s) and syllabus for the module will vary from year to year depending upon the lecturer(s) concerned. Topics will reflect particular practical application areas, or recent developments in the subject, or research interests of the lecturer(s).

SYLLABUS PLAN - summary of the structure and academic content of the module

The syllabus will depend upon the module topic(s) offered and will be specified in detail by the lecturer(s) and agreed by the module coordinator for any particular year. Material in the syllabus will not significantly overlap with that covered in other modules offered at an equivalent level in the same year. Examples of suitable topics are: • Time series modelling and forecasting • Spatial statistical modelling • Modelling of extreme values • Multivariate analysis • Reliability theory and survival analysis, • Statistical quality control, • Sample survey and experimental design. Other suitable topics may also be offered.
