We are able to offer either a one-time session on a variety of topics, including: ‘a day in the life of a medical student’, ‘the medical application process’, ‘interview tips’, practical skills, or a set of three sessions that aim to give prospective medics from Widening Participation schools and colleges the overall skills and knowledge they need to apply to medicine and other healthcare-related subjects. If your school/college would be interested in receiving any sessions from WAMS, please contact us at subjectoutreach@exeter.ac.uk with the topics you would like and when, and we will do our best to help!

Tort law – that is, the law concerned with 'civil wrongs' - is a highly flexible and adaptable tool in the lawyers arsenal. So much so that Allen Beever has referred to tort as the 'Swiss Army Knife' of the common law. In this session we will consider the way in which tort law, specifically the tort of negligence, has been adapted to respond to so-called 'wrongful birth' and 'wrongful conception' cases. Here, the courts are concerned with children born following negligently performed sterilizations and the impact this has on one’s ability to exercise reproductive autonomy. We will discuss how the law treats such cases, how is should treat such cases and what may be the implications of recognising this as a 'civil wrong' resulting in 'damage'.

Available as a 1-hour session and recommended as part of an on-campus visit or in-school delivery (location dependent). Suitable for A level Law students or for any students with an interest in the study of Law at University. For any queries, and bookings, please contact subjectoutreach@exeter.ac.uk

Aimed at students in Year 12, our annual Languages and Cultures Day is an opportunity for students to explore the value of learning languages and to gain an insight into studying at university level. We will inform your students of the exciting opportunities that language degrees or modules can bring, from Study/Work Abroad to Careers and developing valuable transferable skills. Your students will be introduced to languages not frequently taught in school and college, engaging in mini taster sessions in Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, Portuguese, and/or Russian, which will focus on international culture as well as language. In addition to learning from academic speakers, attendees will get to hear from current University of Exeter students who are studying a language and hear about their experiences. No previous language experience is required.

Wednesday 26th March 2025

For any KS4/5 student interested in (but not necessarily studying) History in its general sense. The lecturers will demonstrate how human experience and the contemporary world are shaped through a series of lectures with many cultural references that your students are sure to know. We will demonstrate the breadth of historical academia and introduce your students to subjects that they may never have heard of but find that they are really interested in. They may even already be reading, watching films and playing video games about topics that we will cover on this exciting Historical Studies Discovery Day. Your students will hear from undergraduate students on Classics, Liberal Arts, History, Ancient History or Art History and Visual Culture courses and find out the types of careers that a degree which includes History could lead to. Please contact Ruth at subjectoutreach@exeter.ac.uk to find out more and to register your interest.

UoE WP is inviting Year 12 students from WP-eligible schools in Cornwall to visit Penryn Campus for a day of workshops and lectures focusing on Black History. Spaces allocated will be dependent on rooming, but we are hoping for attendance from around 100 students.

We are following guidance from EDI (key contacts – Beau Bell and Rae Preston) in that:

The day will focus specifically on Black history (more general race equity work can be explored throughout the rest of the year)
Within that brief, workshops and lectures may focus on any aspect of Black history and can apply across disciplines
We accept that discussion of Black history in this context can be traumatic and is experienced differently by different students. As such, we commit to providing a space in which students of colour and students of Black heritage may reflect and share their experiences.
