PGCE Further Education and Skills
This course is provided by Exeter College and validated by the University of Exeter.
The PGCE (FES) programme is designed to support the development of outstanding teachers for the Further Education and Skills (FES) sector. The modules will reflect and complement your experience of teaching, linking theory closely with practice. They are led by lecturers at Exeter College though face to face teaching with additional resources from Exeter College’s virtual learning environments and other online tools to support your learning. You will be encouraged to develop a critical understanding of the diversity of learners and the complexities of the education process, including contrasts between different groups of learners, subjects and further education environments.
The assignments for the modules provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the relationship between theory and practice; skills in interpreting and presenting data; the ability to organise and synthesise information from empirical or theoretical studies; critical evaluation of research and scholarship in the field of education; the ability to learn independently and to apply your knowledge to the teaching context in which you learn and work.
The pre-service PGCE FES course is a one year full time, Master's level course.
There is also an in-service 2 year part time Certificate in Education (FES) course assessed at level 5 for people already employed within the FE sector.
