Essay competitions
Our next essay competitions for the 2024/25 academic year open on Monday 4th November. Are you interested in Biomedical Sciences and Renewable Energy, if so, we would like to hear from you. The competitions are open to A-Level, IB, BTEC and GCSE students in any subject. The winning entries will receive £100 in vouchers, and a University of Exeter hoody. To find out more information, and for details on how to enter, please click on the links below. The closing deadline is Friday 20th December, Good Luck!
When marking essay submissions we look at 5 areas:
- That your argument is well developed and that you have taken a critical approach to the question.
- That you have researched the topic, including specific references where appropriate and commenting on them. When using quotations from external sources, make it clear what they are adding to your argument - do you agree/disagree
- That your essay is well structured, with a well-developed introduction, paragraphs with clear signposting of your argument, and a strong conclusion
- That you have written an articulate response, which develops an original and interesting response to the question.
- That your spelling, punctuation and grammar are accurate throughout
We look forward to reading your entry.
