Standing Attendees at Council
In addition to Mike Shore-Nye (Senior Vice-President and Registrar & Secretary) who acts as Secretary to Council, there are a number of standing attendees at Council who shall normally be in attendance for the full duration of Council meetings. Further information is detailed below.
Members of the University Executive Board or other senior members of the University who are not ex-officio members or in attendance at each meeting may be invited to attend or present major strategic items of business, subject to prior consultation and agreement with the Chair. Any additional attendees shall typically attend for only one item or a series of item(s) of business for which they are required, unless otherwise agreed by the Chair.
Any person in attendance, other than members of the Council, will not be counted in the quoracy and shall have no right to vote.
Professor Adrian Harris
Professor Adrian Harris has been the Chief Medical Officer since April 2015 having qualified from the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1986 and trained in emergency medicine at St Mary’s Hospital in London, Southampton University Hospital and in Perth, Western Australia. Adrian has previously sat on the Council of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine and is an honorary associate professor in healthcare leadership and management at the University of Exeter Medical School. Since April 1998 he has also held the role of Director of Sports Medicine for Exeter Chiefs and has helped shape the policies and procedures at a national level for safety and effectiveness of medical care for England RFU.
Further to endorsement by Nominations Committee (1 July 2024) and approval by Council (11 July 2024), Professor Adrian Harris (Chief Medical Officer, Royal NHS Devon) joined Council as a standing attendee from the Academic Year 2024-25 as part of part of a reciprocal relationship with NHS Royal Devon University Healthcare Foundation Trust. He will be appointed as a Class II Independent Member of Council in the Academic Year 2025-26 (from 1 August 2025), when the next vacancies for Independent Council memberships emerge.
Dave Stacey
Chief Financial Officer and Executive Divisional Director of Finance, Infrastructure and Commercial Services
David joined the University as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Divisional Director of Finance, Infrastructure and Commercial Services in 14 August 2023.
Imelda Rogers
Executive Divisional Director of Human Resources
Imelda is the University's Executive Divisional Director of Human Resources. As the Executive Divisional Director, Imelda is responsible for delivering all Human Resources, Organisational Development, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Health and Wellbeing Services for the University. Previously, Imelda was Head of HR in the Met Office, and prior to that spent 20 years working in Financial Services.
Alison Chambers
CEO, Students' Guild
Alison is the Chief Executive Officer of the Students' Guild at the University of Exeter.
Jeremy Diaper
Assistant Director (Governance)
Jeremy joined the University of Exeter in January 2023 as Assistant Director (Governance).
In this role, he is responsible for providing strategic governance advice and works closely with the Chair of Council and the Senior Vice-President and Registrar & Secretary to ensure effective management and support for the business of the University’s governing body and its committees. He acts as Deputy Secretary to Council and Senate and is designated formal Secretary to all Council committees, including: Audit and Risk Committee, Finance and Investment Committee, Governance and Nominations Committee, Remuneration Committee, and Research and Innovation Committee.
In addition to acting as Head of the University Committee Secretariat, he is also responsible for the management and oversight of the University’s institutional governance arrangements and ensuring compliance with the University’s articles of governance, the Office for Students Regulatory Framework and the CUC Higher Education Code.
