Karime has undertaken a number of roles connected with the city of Exeter for 23 years. Most recently, he was the Chief Executive and Growth Director of Exeter City Council (May 2013 – March 2023) where he worked with partners across the city to develop Exeter’s economy and vision for a healthy, inclusive and sustainable city. Karime was instrumental in overseeing the Council’s Passivhaus building programme and advancing the city’s sustainability goals with the establishment of Exeter City Futures Community Interest Company.

He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to local government in the Queen’s New Year Honours in 2022.

Karime is a Fellow at the Centre for Leadership at the University of Exeter Business School and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Exeter in 2019. He also holds a BA (Hons) in Town and Country Planning from Trent Polytechnic and an MSc Industry and Public Planning Policy from Loughborough University.
